Waitangi Wrap Up Email
15 February 2008

Well the event has been and now gone. We hope you enjoyed yourself during the carnival.

What we have done is that we have uploaded the results up on the website and for the races that we could do, we have uploaded the maps onto route gadget. This means that you can draw your route on for those races and compare to other peoples routes that they took. Its a pretty neat feature, so check it out on the main homepage as it is linked from there. It is real easy to use so please give it a go.

I must take the time now to thank all those who have helped us make this event a success. I would probably do more harm than good trying to name everyone, as there were heaps of you out there who gave us a hand.

In particular I'd love to thank the core management team of the carnival. These people were: Greg Flynn, Neil Kerrison, Martin Peat and yours truly. On top of the main management team, we did have great assistance from North West (Rob Garden, Andrew Bell, Marquita Gelderman, Mike Beveridge, Rolf Wagner, Alan Janes) and Taupo (Lance Eccles, Jim Lewis, Chris Morris) clubs for helping run events as part of the carnival, as well as from the Hamilton club for allowing us access to their maps. There was also other clubs such as Auckland and Counties who both assisted with gear and also for Auckland who assisted with staging a race as part of the carnival.

Also thanks to all our brilliant course setters and controllers who gave up heaps of their time to help with the event (Angela Simpson, Brent Edwards, Claire Paterson, Nick Harris, Lance Eccles, Jamie Stewart, Greg Flynn, Neil Kerrison, Yours truly). My apologies to all those guys who helped us out during the carnival and that I haven't named, your help really did make the event a success.

We also had great support from the NZOF who we could not have run this event without. On top of all these great orienteering helpers we also had a few sponsors on board, including Bivouac Hamilton and Buff NZ. We also had dirtyd (Clem Larsen and Tania Robinsons orienteering top company) and infonews (Fraser Mills media company), as well as Leppin and Endurancesport. Endurancesport is always good to orienteering and gives us key exposure with a regular slot for orienteering.

So on that note, I think the most important people to thank are you for coming. We do hope you enjoyed yourself and we are looking at making an online survey in the not to distant future so that we can learn and improve for the future.

Until next time, we hope you get out orienteering and enjoy it as much as we enjoyed you attending our event!
