Sunshine and smiles.
The rain threatening to dampen the first event in the R&R Taylors Mistake Rogaine series didn't amount to anything and we even got good lashings of sunshine. By using reverse scoring (making the further away points worth less) and placing high scoring controls in places selected for their interest and/or scenic beauty, racers not only got some visual treats but also there were lots of very high scores.
Assured that the course couldn't be cleared in 3 hours, event organiser, Nora Audra offered Greg Hamilton his entry fee back if he got all controls within time. Greg got his entry fee back with 22min to spare (total points 1840). Greg and his team mate Michael Smithson finished 10min ahead of Tim Farrant and Tane Cambridge, who also cleared all the controls. A great effort by those two teams.
First mixed team as David Sutton and Clive Marsh on 1660. Jess Collingwood and Isla Smith were the top scoring womans team on 1550.
There were some comments that some team were not staying together which is breaking the rules and not playing fair. Please make sure you stick together for your own safety and in fairness to other teams.
A total of 67 teams made for a great turn out and there were plenty of jet planes and Minties to fill their smiles with.
