Night Nav 2008 - Event #1 Report 21 August 2008 As usual the Night Navigation Series had a clear blue sky for the first event to keep it as light as possible. The lights went in all kind of directions and soon disapeared into the dark forest after the start. A short hour later the first light were seen at the Visitors Centre and soon after the vast majority of the athletes came rushing in to bip the finish control before those nasty penalty points start reducing the score. Very good challenging courses were planned by Greig Hamilton and nobody were close to getting all the controls, which makes it much more of a planning exercise. Furthermore the athletes would have had to continually re-ases their plan and take decisions on what points to leave out and which points were still worth getting. The penalty points were decided to be 25 points pr minute late. Greg Campbell took out the mens foot-o class with 1480 with Ian Edmond and Mike Plank just around a 100 points back. In the women's class it was very close with Claire McLennan(1170) just edging out Nora Audra with the smallest of margins 10 points in very impressive 5th and 6th overall. In the MTB-O section the mixed team of Karen & Johno Fausch took out the most points (1060) with Rupert McLachlan and Neil Scarlett about a 100 points with the next women in competition being Deb Bain. Thanks to the Lolly Shop the Athletes could get their hands on some fast carbos for reloading after the event while waiting to download their e cards (dippers/SportIdents). A couple of technical problems has been resolved and the results with information on all the controls punched as well as penalty points is linked from the front page. A special thank you to our sponsors the Bivouac Outdoors, The Lolly Shop and Thule Car Roof Systems (please support them as they support us). See you next week at SPENCERPARK!(registration from 18.00 - briefing around 18.45 and start at 19.00) |
