Final Information - Ready to Go? 21 February 2008 Welcome to the Boohai! Thanks to those of you that have entered. This won't be a huge event but it will be a goodie. The fact that Anaura Bay is miles from most places is probably what keeps it the way it is (a little slice of paradise)but it also makes it hard to get to for a weekend, so thanks for making the effort. Our priorities in sport are maximising the adventure and exploration, literal and metaphorical. Its not about the metres climbed or the fact that you are 5 minutes faster than last year, its about fun and achievement with friends in the complex environment that nature provides. Its also the holistic experience. Pre race Recommended accomodation is at the Anaura Bay Motor Camp, ph (06) 8626380, camping only I think. This is miles from any shops, so you need to have all your kai ready. It may also be advisable to bring supplies of drinking water. Race Gear Water, water, water, both teams of organisers recently had hydration deprived experiences. A couple of the streams are good to drink from, but you do so at your own risk and we will be providing one drinks stop at a key point, but it is advised that you carry water as well. Compulsory gear: this must be carried at ALL times: pack, rain coat, polypro top, survival blanket, whistle, sun hat, 2 litres of water carrying capacity. You will also need a PENCIL to note down checkpoint numbers. And it is advised to bring highlighters to mark your planned route with. On the day Registration, map collection for both days will be at the hall at the Anaura Bay Motor Camp from 8:00 to 8:15, come earlier and we'll sort you out as well. Race starts are at 9 and there will be drives of max 15 minutes to the starts. Each competitor will be given a specially made map and clue sheet inside a plastic bag. Rules and Scoring Rogaining rules and a code of conduct can be found on the website of the New Zealand Rogaining Association www.rogaine.org.nz. Basically the team must stick together at all times and carry their compulsory gear at all times and be nice. Any breachers of the rules will be dealt to. Teams get one point per checkpoint and lose one point for every five minutes they are late. So sweet, see you there, flick us an email at madeventz@gmail.com if you have any further questions or need any advice. |
