The Boohai update and FAQ
8 February 2008

A view from one of the courses? (or not?)

Earlybird entry ($10 discount pp) closes on the 15th Feb.

Entries, and rumoured entries, have been cruising in and preparations continue for what should be a great event.

Jamie spent a couple of hard days out on the courses last week and is currently computer bound sorting out the maps (they will be adjusted topographical maps blown up to 1:25,000.) Thanks to local John Harris we have had a late change of terrain for the first day. John recommended and provided a landowner contact for a super scenic and interesting slice of paradise that proved just too good to pass up. So adjust your sights a little towards some amazing coastal scenery and some interesting farmland backing onto regenerating native scrub and lovely cool streams! The second day remains in some open but demanding pine forest, which should provide plenty of scope for teams to catch up any deficits on their rivals from the first day.

John, along with Boohai organisers Rhys Burns and Rachel Smith is also trying to establish rogaining in Gisborne. One event has been held already with afterwork urban events happening soon. Awesome!

Accomodation for Boohai:

After considering the options we have decided to recommend competitors stay at the Anaura Bay Motor Camp. The Motor Camp has showers/toilets etc and also keeps the sun a bit later than the DOC campsite. The price per night is $9.50 per adult or $6.50 for under 16's. You can contact the Motor Camp on (06) 8626380 or just show up. You will be paying the camp owners directly. Registration and map collection for both days will also be in the hall at the Motor Camp.

FAQ

"Can we compete on one day"
Yes! $40 Saturday, $30 Sunday

"Is the event suitable for beginners?"
Yes! Rogaining is uniquely suited to beginners as everyone can choose the controls that they visit and taylor a challenge to suit their competence. Some checkpoints are easy to cater for beginners.

"How many different disciplines are there?"
One! Rogaining unless otherwise stated is by foot only, ie no mountain bikes
